VILADRAU URBAN PLAN

The scope of action of the municipality of Viladrau is almost entirely within the Montseny Biosphere Reserve, one of the most emblematic natural areas in Catalonia. The varied climate creates three biogeographical regions: Mediterranean, Eurosiberian, and Boreoalpine, contributing to the high biodiversity of Montseny, which has been recognized by UNESCO with the distinction of a Biosphere Reserve.

On the other hand, we highlight the following description found in the landscape study, relating to the forest:

01 The forest creates a natural, green framework that fosters the seamless connection between the mountain and urban greenery and provides continuity along the road.
02 The forest encloses and wraps around the landscaped areas of water springs, creating cool, shaded spaces.
03 The forest and riverside trees mark the course of the water and accompany the pathways.
04 The transitions between urban and forest areas are abrupt, with the street pavement giving way to dirt paths or ending sharply against the dense forest that acts as a barrier.

According to the provided landscape study, it is observed that the existing forested area compared to that known in 1945 has been reduced due to the growth of the municipality.

Moreover, the steep slopes of the municipality have led to the construction of stone terrace walls, viewpoints, ramps, and stairs, which have contributed to the identity of the municipality.
An extensive network of pathways exists within the municipality, providing access from the town center to farmhouses and agricultural or livestock areas and serving as walking routes through forests, streams, and green areas with panoramic views or hiking trails leading to natural springs or the summit of Montseny. The town and its territory are dotted with a wide network of natural springs, and the traces of water, along with some still-visible remnants like old mills, bridges, street names, or murals with routes and distances to springs, constantly evoke the memory of water.

The existing architecture in the area of action is generally residential and not influenced by the areas housing various Noucentista buildings in the municipality. This is a reurbanization of a residential area. We do find the facility known as «Espai Montseny» at the end of Migdia Street.

Our study strategy begins with the need to define the directionality of the roads in the area of action. The Vic road crosses this urban core and runs tangentially to the area of action of the streets where work is to be done. From this road, access is provided to the Passeig dels Castanyers and the Passeig del Dr. Ariet.
